The remainder of the semester
I am writing with more details about the remainder of the term. Please remember that the remediation plans are being developed by the individual course directors, and therefore things that hold true in one course may not hold true in another course. Therefore, the details outlined here are only with regard to COMN 3101.
As noted in my previous email, students reserve not to cross the picket line without penalty and may therefore choose not to participate in the class or submit work until the strike has finished. This means that you can decided not to follow this remediation plan, and make up the remainder of the course once the strike has ended.
For those students who wish to resume the course, I will be putting in place the following steps to ensure fair access to course materials for the remainder of the semester.
1) We will NOT meet on campus for the duration of the strike. I will post lecture materials online at the course website. These will involve a recorded lecture and powerpoint that will cover material linked to the course readings. This material will be posted on the class website every Tuesday by noon. I have adjusted the course schedule to follow the new dates for the Winter semester.
2) Office hours will be held via Skype, NOT in person on campus. Office hours will be extended to make up for the lack of in person meetings. I will be available on Tuesdays between 2-5pm. I can also meet at other times if arrangements are made. If you would like to speak with me, please email me to arrange an appointment. Alternatively, you can send me emails with questions related to course materials or the final assignment.
3) The due dates of the remaining assignments for students who decide to resume the course are as follows:
Unit Three Assignment will be due Friday March 27th;
Unit Four Assignment on April 7th;
Unit Five Assignment on April 21st.
Students who adhere to these dates will have their final grade for the May 3rd end of the semester. Students can choose not to follow this schedule without penaly (i.e. having marks deducted), but they will not have their final grade for the beginning of May.
4) All assignments should be submitted exclusively via Moodle (no hard copies.)
This plan will be in effect until the end of the strike and the resumption of normal class meetings or the end of the semester. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
DO NOT FORGET, we DO NOT have a class scheduled for this week (no readings, no lecture), but you are asked to screen the film “The Stuart Hall Project”.
